Welcome to our Reticulum node

We're Sean and Derek. We run this server so people can use Reticulum, Yggdrasil and LoRa radio, and we're happy to do it. It's funded by The Informed, a nonprofit arm of h Bar CO.

WHAT CONNECTS HERE

One server, several ways in

Reticulum sits in the middle. The rest are ways to reach it.

Network map of rns.theinformed.org The node rns.theinformed.org sits in the center running Reticulum. The public internet connects on TCP port 4242, Yggdrasil peers on port 9001, I2P connects through an I2P tunnel, and LoRa radios connect through a home gateway that bridges radio to the node. The Tor learning site runs on a separate server with no link to this one. WHAT WE SERVE

The four networks

Setup guides are linked on each card.

Reticulum

ENCRYPTED MESH · ANY CARRIER

An encrypted network that runs over anything: LoRa, WiFi, the internet or I2P. It keeps working at a few hundred bits a second, so it survives when the internet doesn't.

  • Transport node for the wider network.
  • Message relay that holds encrypted mail for people who are offline.
  • Page node for MeshChat and Nomad Network.

Yggdrasil

ENCRYPTED IPv6 · SELF-ADDRESSED

An encrypted IPv6 network where every device makes its own address. Normal apps like your browser and SSH work over it.

  • Public peer anyone can join through.
  • A site reachable only inside Yggdrasil.
  • Reticulum over Yggdrasil too.

LoRa radio

LONG RANGE · NO INTERNET NEEDED

Low-power radio that reaches several kilometers. A cheap LoRa board set up as an RNode lets you send messages with no cell service or internet.

  • Radio entry point into this node and the rest of the network.
  • People on radio and people on the internet can message each other.

Tor

ANONYMOUS · ONION SERVICE

Our learning site, with lessons, a browser leak test and an encrypted messenger. It runs on a separate server. Open it in Tor Browser.

WHY WE RUN IT

Why we pay to keep this online

Learning by using it

Students connect to a live node and watch a message route.

A path when the internet fails

LoRa keeps messages moving with no towers, and this node links radio users to everyone else.

Infrastructure others can use

These networks run on volunteers. Every reliable public node helps.
